Pre-school education and child care in Edinburgh

Choosing the right place for your child can feel quite daunting, especially in a large city where there is a wide range of options available.

The City of Edinburgh Council has 18 nursery schools; one under 5s centre, nursery classes based in 94 primary schools across the city and 12 child and family centres.

There are also 120 partner provider centres – these include private, workplace or community-run nurseries and playgroups, as well as independent schools, all commissioned by the Council’s Children and Families Department to provide quality pre-school education and registered and inspected by the Scottish Care Commission and HMIE.
