Fife has 36,000 council tenants. Fife Council is responsible for:
- deciding how to allocate available council homes;
- repairing and improving council homes;
- responding to requests from tenants to alter their council homes;
- giving grants to improve council homes;
- running the garden care scheme for older and disabled tenants;
- collecting rent and advising people who are in arrears;
- providing accommodation for people who are homeless;
- dealing with benefits, including council tax and rent rebates;
- planning for housing.
Every year, we offer homes to 4,000 new tenants, carry out 200,000 repairs and improve 1,600 homes. We collect £76 million of rent from tenants each year and use this money to pay for our services. We consult with our tenants on our plans, for example on empty houses, on repairs and improvements and on housing information.
If you need help or information about your council home, or you want to apply for a council home, please contact your local office.
