East Lothian Council formally approved the latest version of its Affordable Housing Policy on 31st January 2006. The Policy has been approved following consultation as Supplementary Planning Guidance. The Policy comes into effect immediately.

The Policy requires that a contribution to affordable housing provision be sought from all private housing developments of greater than four units with exceptions specified within the Policy. The Policy has been developed in line with Scottish Planning Policy 1 - The Planning System, Scottish Planning Policy 3 - Planning for Housing and Planning Advice Note 74 - Affordable Housing produced by the Scottish Executive by the Environment Division and Community Services Department of the Council.
