We treat all our pupils the same way - individually!
What makes your child an individual? Unique talents, unique needs, unique ambitions. Your child needs a school that not only recognises this uniqueness but is equipped to provide personally tailored teaching to suit the individual child. Large schools lack this flexibility. The Edinburgh Academy is a small school with small class sizes. Your child is an individual here.
Another requirement of personally tailored teaching is a secondary school curriculum that does not constrain, but identifies and develops individual talent. Combining the English and Scottish examination systems maximises the flexibility of the curriculum. Boys and girls may achieve university entrance qualifications through either Highers or A-Levels.
Scholarships
Every year The Edinburgh Academy offers external scholarships to help gifted children achieve their highest potential. Academic scholarships, art scholarships, music scholarships and sports scholarships are designed to reward excellence by enabling pupils to attend the Academy who would not otherwise be able to do so. Bursaries (financial support) may also be available to pupils whose families may not otherwise be in a position to consider the school. Scholarship applications for 2009-10 are due by Wednesday 14 January 2009

It is small classes and a high staffing ratio that make individual attention and personally tailored teaching possible. To be seen as an individual a child must not be crowded with many others in a large class where his share of the teacher's attention is only a few minutes per day. For a child to develop an inquiring mind, her teacher needs to be able to respond when she wants to ask a question.
The Edinburgh Academy's
Personally tailored teaching also requires good teachers. Many teachers can teach subjects; good teachers know how to teach boys and girls. Good teachers inspire a child with a love of learning that endures long after specific facts are forgotten. The Edinburgh Academy can provide personally tailored teaching because it has good, well qualified and dedicated teachers.
