The Royal Society of Edinburgh is organising a series of events on Robert Burns as part of the celebrations marking 250 years since his birth. These include:
- a lecture by Neal Ascherson on Burns' impact overseas
- a concert at St Cecilia's hall by The Haydn Trio Esissenstadt

EU Rules for Bluetongue Vaccination increase the movement of potentially infected animals.
The Royal Society of Edinburgh is calling on the EU to change its approach to vaccination procedures across Europe, in order to reduce the spread of viral pathogens. The decision to vaccinate against diseases such as Bluetongue results in the EU requiring that area to allow the movement of animals from infected areas within and between EU member states, effectively easing the movement of potentially infected animals into the country and its spread across Europe Read Press release

Scottish genius James Clerk Maxwell receives recognition in city of his birth
A statue recognising the achievements of James Clerk Maxwell was unveiled today, Tuesday 25th November. It will be the first statue to be put up in George Street, Edinburgh in almost a century. Produced by Paisley-based Sculptor, Alexander Stoddart and commissioned by The Royal Society of Edinburgh, the monument was unveiled by the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Alex Fergusson MSP at the East end of George Street.
