The Additional Support for Learning Act strengthens and modernises the system for supporting children and young people who need help to benefit from school education.  Under the Act, parents and young people have new rights.  It also place new duties on education authorities and other agencies such as health boards and social work services.  The Act comes into effect on 14 November 2005.
