Leith Festival
Edinburgh may be the world’s leading festival
city, but for ten days in June, Leith buzzes as the festival
capital of Edinburgh City Region.
There are around 150 events in 50 venues
organised by the local community. Residents and visitors enjoy the
traditional pursuits of a summer fair including pony rides and
tug-of-war, or listen to Senegalese jazz, Balkan folk music or
Chopin recitals.
There are showcases for local comedians and
for stand-ups from further afield. There is also the opportunity to
take a guided waking tour through the historic port or visit a
photographic exhibition.
The crescendo of the festival week is the
'Walk the Walk' parade, a prelude to the Gala Day itself.
Samba schools, baton twirlers, pipe bands and puppeteers
parade along Leith Walk in an event which has been established for
over a century.
