Children's International Theatre Festival
The Bank of Scotland Children's International Theatre Festival
is the UK's largest performing arts festival for children and young
people. It aims to provide children with regular access to a
diverse range of high quality performing arts activity from home
and abroad. Events are designed to entertain, enrich, teach and
inspire.
Every year in May, the Festival presents around 15 productions
by UK and international companies which attract audiences of over
15,000. Children and young people up to the age of 18, along with
their families and teachers have the opportunity to see the best
children's theatre the world has to offer.
The programme offers a range of events to stimulate young
children with dance, musical activities and visual effects. Older
children can embark on theatrical adventures with pirates and
mermaids, dragons and knights-errant. Performers from Denmark, the
Netherlands and Germany re-invigorate classic fairytales, epic
romances and mythological tales.
European dance companies re-invent ballet for younger audiences
and perform in flamboyant costumes. The Festival consistently
entertains, but it also educates with thoughtful interpretations of
challenging, historical events.
After performing in Edinburgh, the Festival takes to the road
and tours throughout Scotland.
