Scottish International Storytelling Festival

Experience the power of the spoken word at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival.

Running from late October to early November, the festival celebrates Scotland’s oral tradition thorugh a medley of public and scheduled events.

The Scottish Storytelling Centre on the Royal Mile is the focus for the Festival although events take place across the city. The Centre also offers a programme of events throughout the year including development seminars, outreach initiatives and workshops for dedicated storytellers, teachers, parents and carers.

Tell a Story Day has become a popular fixture of the Festival.  Everyone has an experience to share and participation is a key element of the Festival. Over 100 events take place throughout Scotland. Castles, churches and theatres become storytelling venues for the day. Storytellers of all ages lure audiences with a blend of intonation and imagination.
