Overseas students and families
The UK warmly welcomes students and their
families from overseas. This is an overview of some of the
guidelines that may apply to your stay here. For full information,
please consult the relevant foreign embassy.
- If you live in the European Economic Area (EEA) and
Switzerland, you can bring your wife, husband or partner with you
to live and work here without any restrictions
- If you live elsewhere, they can apply for a UK visa to stay
here, so long as they can prove that they have enough funds or
savings to support themselves for the length of the planned visit
to the UK. You can apply for a visa for any of your children, so
long as you can prove that you have the funds to care for them
while they are here
- Your partner is allowed to also work here if they have
permission to stay here for more than 12 months
- International students and their dependants can access free
services such as the National Health Services but are not eligible
for any welfare benefits, such as unemployment benefit.
