International Student Work In Edinburgh
Britain is actively encouraging students from abroad, so
legislation allows international students to have a part-time job
to help fund your studies: you may work up to 20 hours a week
during term time and full-time during the holidays.
Most colleges and universities have careers
services dedicated to helping you find part-time work, as well as
first jobs following graduation. They can also help you with your
CV and interview skills.
There are plenty of vacancies for students in
the city region, particularly in the service sector. Jobs are
available with registered companies or charities. They all practise
equal opportunity and pay at least the National Minimum Wage
(approx £5 per hour). Although your work experience may not be in
the same area you want to work when you graduate, you can still
learn skills that look good on your CV.
After graduating the Scottish Government’s Fresh Talent
initiative allows international graduates of
Scottish universities or colleges to live and work in Scotland for
two years after graduating without the need for a work permit.
