International graduates

Scotland warmly welcomes overseas students and actively encourages graduates to stay and start their careers here. Many students stay on in Edinburgh City Region and the rest of Scotland – an average of around 600 international graduates start their careers in Scotland every year. This page tells you can access information that can help you and gives you links to the various schemes available.

The Scottish Government’s Fresh Talent Initiative allows international graduates of Scottish universities or colleges to live and work in Scotland for two years after graduating without the need for a work permit. Many choose to stay in the city, working within Edinburgh’s key sectors including business, science and the creative industries.

Scottish Networks International (SNI) works to enhance the educational experience of carefully selected international postgraduates and broaden their experience of Scotland. Opportunities include a business networking programme while you study, management placements in companies and organisations at the end of your studies and membership of the SNI international business network, linking members in countries around the world.
