Innovative Edinburgh City Region website aims to inspire
February 8th, 2008
An innovative new website promoting the
Edinburgh City Region to prospective investors, visitors, students
and residents was launched on February 8th,
2008.
The Edinburgh Inspiring Capital Brand (EICB)
website (http://www.edinburgh-inspiringcapital.com/)
contains a wealth of information on every aspect of living,
investing, visiting and studying in the region and is the latest in
a series of initiatives using the EICB to profile the city region
across the world.
The launch follows more than a year of
intensive development work led by the EICB team, with support and
contributions from more than 150 public and private sector
organisations across the region. These include The City of
Edinburgh Council, Midlothian Council, East Lothian Council, Jones
Lang LaSalle, VisitScotland, Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and
Lothian, Denholm Associates and all higher and further education
institutions within the city region.
The new consumer website represents an
important change in the way Edinburgh City Region markets itself
around the world. Both pro-active and ambitious, the new approach
helps ensure the city region continues to earn its reputation as
one of the most inspiring locations in the world.
By providing key messages and information in
one place for the first time the website enables the city region to
cross sell its benefits to a range of audiences.
As well as promoting the region, the website
aims to become a vital tool for the city region’s organisations by
assisting with recruitment and induction processes. Businesses are
encouraged to link to the website to help Edinburgh compete in the
global market place to attract talent, trade and tourism.
Cllr Tom Buchanan, Economic Development
Convenor for the City of Edinburgh Council said: “The website has
been a considerable undertaking, involving more than 16 months of
development and collaboration with a number of public and private
organisations. It will not only be a tool for external consumers,
but also for organisations within the city region, providing vital
information and help in the recruitment of employees.
“EICB’s website is a key tool for potential
organisations, investors and developers interested in our city
region and ties in with the proactive partnership approach
currently being undertaken by the Council on attracting inward
investment. It gives us the opportunity to more proactively market
our key investment strengths, and particularly development
opportunities within Edinburgh’s City Centre, Waterfront, West
Edinburgh, and the Bioquarter.
“Many of our European competitors, including
Glasgow and London, have a ‘city brand’, so if Edinburgh,
Scotland’s capital city, and its neighbouring authorities want to
continue operating on an international stage in regards to tourism,
talent and inward investment, we have to work together to promote
our truly Inspiring product.”
Ailsa Falconer, Edinburgh Inspiring Capital
Brand Manager said: “The launch of http://www.edinburgh-inspiringcapital.com/ marks
the beginning of a much more effective and coordinated approach to
city region promotion which will only strengthen over time. The
development of this website has benefited from the contributions
and support of countless individuals and organisations. I urge
organisations from across the region to link to the website and
join us in the promotion of the Edinburgh City Region as the place
to live, invest, visit and study.”
Alan Robertson, Managing Director of Jones
Lang LaSalle (Scotland) said: “Rather than having to scramble
around in several places to gather information on the city, the new
website provides potential inward investors with all the essential
facts in one easily accessible place. It will make a tremendously
positive contribution to the image that Edinburgh presents to the
outside world and will be an excellent shop window for numerous
aspects of the city region. “
