An Edinburgh Career - Case Study
Vicky Hope joined the Leith Agency as a project director in
2006. Previously she had worked for Tequila (London) on high
profile accounts for Shell, O2 and Proctor & Gamble.
Significant growth in the promotional marketing element of the
business has resulted in the Leith Agency establishing a specialist
department, for which she now works.
“I knew of Edinburgh’s reputation in the creative industries
before our relocation, which is quite unusual when you work in the
very closed shop of agencies in London. Edinburgh attracts big name
brands and marketing clients and I am delighted to have the
opportunity to work in such a progressive city.
One of the main drivers in deciding to move to Edinburgh was to
be able to live close to our workplace. We had a two hour commute
when living in Essex and working in London. In comparison I now
enjoy a 10 minute walk to the office along the Water of Leith.
The city’s environment, coupled with the proximity of work, home
and leisure activities has greatly assisted my
family’s work-life balance. I’ve also noticed that the office
culture in Edinburgh is more rounded to people having a life
outside – businesses are more accommodating to your family
commitments without any compromise on professional standards.
Our children have quickly settled into a very progressive
pre-school where they are able to get access to
excellent cultural experiences and enjoy outdoor activities. Their being happy made me
feel part of the community quickly before I was working and has
eased our transition into Edinburgh.
I really enjoy the mix of living in the city but being only 20
minutes away from amazing countryside and coastline. There is so
much to do. The city offers endless cultural activities and has a
real buzz. We also enjoy escaping for weekends and holidays to the
dramatic Scottish Highlands. With the traffic being far less
congested (compared to London) it’s easy to drive around and
explore the city region."
