Edinburgh Pubs And Bars
Savour a dram of Glenkinchie (an Edinburgh
Malt) at a Rose Street bar, surrounded by brass, mahogany and
fiddle music. It’s only a few yards to George Street where
you can knock back a Whisky Mac cocktail, amidst the Art Deco
majesty of a converted bank building.
In Edinburgh alone, there are around 400
pubs. In the nineteenth century there were almost 50
breweries in the vicinity, giving Edinburgh the name ‘Auld Reekie’.
Most of the breweries have gone but the unique pub culture they
inspired remains.
If the dark charms of Caledonian ale in
a gothic themed pub don’t appeal, then visit the contemporary
designer bars of the city. There are many elegant and
radically designed bars in the city centre and Leith which offer a
wide selection of spirits, wines, cocktails and vintage malts.
Venture to the country pubs in the wider city
region and have a bar lunch beside the Union Canal or enjoy the
regionally brewed Belhaven beer while looking out toward the Bass
Rock.
