Edinburgh Urban Sports

Live a life away from your office desk.  Explore the riverside trails, waterfront walks and cycle paths of the Edinburgh City Region.

The BUPA Great Edinburgh Run was voted the best race in Scotland by readers of RunnersWorld magazine and attracts 10,000 competitors.  The route of the10k race forms a timeline through Scottish history.  It passes Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Scottish Parliament.

The Edinburgh Marathon also takes in the city’s defining landmarks.  Personal bests are plentiful at the Edinburgh Half Marathon, which offers one of the fastest courses in the UK.

Test your physical endurance and ingenuity at the Rat Race held in Edinburgh in July.  The event involves running, climbing and biking across Edinburgh City Region’s most tortuous terrain.  If you develop a taste for multi-discipline events, then make a resolution to enter the New Year Triathlon.

Participants of the Edinburgh Moonwalk in June tread the moonlit cobbles of Edinburgh in one of the UK’s most life-affirming, charity events.  The Edinburgh Race for Life takes place in the same month.  Pedal for Scotland in September is the country’s biggest cycling event and takes entrants on a 77km route from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
