Edinburgh Sports and Activities

Enjoy some of the world’s most sublime urban walks.  The view from the summit of Arthur’s Seat instantly validates the decision to make Edinburgh City Region your home. Walk among the wildflowers and mayfly by the Water of Leith and forget you’re in the heart of a confident, capital city.

Dance the night away at a ceilidh (a traditional social dance).  Ceilidhs are held regularly and most assist novices beforehand, by walking through the dance steps.

Dance Base is Scotland’s National Centre for Dance.  It provides over 100 classes in 40 different dance forms, from Tap to Tango.

The first rules of golf were devised for a game played at Leith Links in 1744.  There are six public courses in Edinburgh city, offering new residents an instant introduction to golf in the city region (just book a tee-time, pay and play).  There are a further 19 links and parkland golf courses in East Lothian alone, including Muirfield which has hosted 15 Open Championships.

If you have good sea legs then you can sail in the Firth of Forth or sea kayak along the capital’s coastline.

Surf’s up in East Lothian.  There are dozens of surfing breaks along the East Lothian coastline.  Many are considered to be among the best in the country.
