Enjoy some of the world’s most sublime urban
walks. The view from the summit of Arthur’s Seat instantly
validates the decision to make Edinburgh City Region your home.
Walk among the wildflowers and mayfly by the Water of Leith and
forget you’re in the heart of a confident, capital city.
Dance the night away at a ceilidh (a
traditional social dance). Ceilidhs are held regularly and
most assist novices beforehand, by walking through the dance
steps.
Dance Base is Scotland’s National Centre for
Dance. It provides over 100 classes in 40 different dance
forms, from Tap to Tango.
The first rules of golf were devised for a
game played at Leith Links in 1744. There are six public
courses in Edinburgh city, offering new residents an instant
introduction to golf in the city region (just book a tee-time, pay
and play). There are a further 19 links and parkland
golf
courses in East Lothian alone, including Muirfield which
has hosted 15 Open Championships.
If you have good sea legs then you can sail in
the Firth of Forth or sea kayak along the capital’s coastline.

dozens of surfing breaks along the East Lothian coastline.
Many are considered to be among the best in the country.
