Edinburgh Leisure Facilities
Perfect your tumble turns, scissor kicks, and
drop volleys at one of Edinburgh City Region’s leisure
centres.
In Edinburgh alone, there are over 20 leisure
centres and 10 swimming pools including the Royal Commonwealth
Pool. As part of a National Sports Facilities Strategy, the
pool complex will receive a £30m upgrade.
An £8m leisure complex including a 25-metre
pool is to be built in Bathgate, West Lothian. A new £49m
facility at Sighthill in Edinburgh city has also been proposed. It
will include a 6000-seater stadium and running track.
Many of the major health and fitness clubs
have opened facilities in the area including Virgin Active,
Livingwell and Greens.
Sport facilities in the area inspire
superlatives. The Midlothian Snowsports Centre features the
longest artificial ski slope in Britain. Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is
the world’s largest climbing arena.
Glentress Mountain Bike Centre is
Scotland’s biggest and most popular mountain bike centre.
There are easy (green) routes for beginners to unforgiving (black)
trails. The Matrix and Britney Spears routes became instant
classics.
