School Assessment - Edinburgh Schools
Edinburgh schools receive an excellent HMIE
(Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Education) report. In fact, it’s one
of the best reports in Scotland.
In 2005/06, 90% of Quality Indicators in
primary schools and 87% of Quality Indicators in secondary schools
were adequate, good, very good or excellent.
Unprecedented exam results are being achieved
in the city’s secondary schools. The percentage of Secondary
4 pupils gaining 5 or more Standard Grades has increased from 69%
in 1996 to 89%% in 2006
To maintain this excellent record,
improvements are being implemented from primary to secondary level,
such as:
- Smaller class sizes of 25 for Primary 1 and
30 for Primary 2 and 3
- The Scottish Government also have longer term
plans to reduce class sizes for Primary 1-3 to 18.
All 94 of the City of Edinburgh Council’s
primary schools have school uniforms, as do 22 of the 23 secondary
schools - a policy shown to encourage a sense of community and
belonging.
