Outdoor education

Outdoor Edinburgh, part of the City of Edinburgh Council’s Children and Families Department, promotes outdoor education.  Children are given the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities in a safe environment with the guidance of expert, licensed instructors.

Activities on offer include mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, hill walking and kayaking.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

The City of Edinburgh Council runs two outdoor centres which are both accredited by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA).  The Benmore Centre in Argyll and Lagganlia Centre near Kingussie are set amidst majestic Highland landscapes.  They’re ideal locations in which to perfect new skills, build confidence and have fun.

Further dedicated outdoor education resources are provided by councils throughout the city region.  Local children can abseil in the Trossachs, go canoeing in Fife or sailing in East Lothian.

Man on crags

There is no habitation of human beings in this world so fine in its way….as this, the capital of Scotland.
