Edinburgh’s Gay Community
Edinburgh City Region’s cosmopolitan ambience
sets the scene for a lively and thriving gay scene. Gays, bisexual
and transgender communities celebrate their unity and diversity and
highlight their right to equality. Edinburgh has six Equality
Forums which are a vital part of the Council's work on equalities
issues.
Gay Pride parades have been held in Edinburgh
every two years since 1995, with numbers peaking at 20,000 in 1999.
In recent years, Pride Scotia, has included a parade and several
indoor events. A gay festival in the Capital that attracted
thousands of revellers was revived as a major outdoor event in a
city park on June 23 2007. Party-goers arrived in Pilrig Park for a
massive celebration after the event, which saw over 5,000 people
taking part.
