one of Edinburgh city region’s leisure centres.
In Edinburgh alone, there are over 20 leisure centres and 10
swimming pools, including the Royal Commonwealth Pool, which is
currently is receiving a £30m upgrade, while a £9m leisure complex
including a 25-metre pool opened in Bathgate, West Lothian in the
summer of 2010.
Many of the major health and fitness clubs have facilities in
the area too, including Virgin Active, David Lloyd and
Bannatynes.
Sport facilities in the area inspire superlatives. The Midlothian Snowsports Centre features the
longest artificial ski slope in Britain, while Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is the
world’s largest climbing arena.
Glentress Mountain Bike Centre is Scotland’s
biggest and most popular mountain bike centre, with easy (green)
routes for beginners to unforgiving (black) trails.
