June screening for Made in Edinburgh
June, Documentary - The Holyrood Files
The screening of The Holyrood Files was emotional for all
involved. It was an excellent night with a fantastic question
and answer session after the screening.
Synopsis
Stuart Grieg's documentary on the construction of Edinburgh's
Holyrood parliamentary building was six years in the making and
was originally screened as a four-part series on BBC2.
The documentary was so controversial that it unleashed a political
firestorm as it was being completed, with a government inquiry
demanding full access to his unseen footage and politicians
threatening him with fines and imprisonment.
In 2005, the story was condensed into a single feature-length
documentary with a tale of dashed idealism and grubby party
politics. This is a superior example of UK documentary-making
- politically astute, beautifully crafted and winner of both a
BAFTA Scotland and Celtic Film and Television award for best
Documentary.
