Edinburgh - Local Cultural Highlights

Discover the distant lives of those who formed Edinburgh City Region’s destiny.

Edinburgh Castle merits its iconic status and emphatically defines the city skyline. The ramparts enclose a complex of buildings including St Margaret’s Chapel, the oldest building in the capital.

Free admission to the National Museum of Scotland and late night opening encourages residents to visit this internationally acclaimed collection. The National Museum of Flight in East Lothian chronicles the nation’s aviation heritage and includes the only Concorde on display in Scotland.

The City of Edinburgh Council’s museums offer insights into the lives of the city’s infamous residents, including artists, authors and aristocrats. Exhibits include Sir Walter Scott’s chess board and Greyfriars Bobby’s drinking bowl.

Evoke the impassioned history of the city region by visiting the area’s ruined castles and churches. The Benedictine monks of Dunfermline Abbey , the Moss troopers of Tantallon Castle and the Border reivers have all left a vital legacy.  Rosslyn Chapel, recently popularized by Dan Brown’s, The Da Vinci Code, is a place of international, architectural and religious significance.

A close in Edinburgh
