Rail route network

There are around 80 trains a day from Edinburgh to Glasgow and 20 a day to London.

From December 2007, National Express  will operate the inter-city train services along the East Coast main line linking Edinburgh to north-east Scotland and London Kings Cross via Dunbar, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, Darlington, York, Doncaster, Grantham, Peterborough and Stevenage.

The West Coast main line, operated by Virgin Trains is easily accessible from Glasgow. The line connects central Scotland to London Euston via other UK financial centres such as Manchester and Birmingham.

The First TransPennine Express service links Edinburgh with north England, linking the Scottish capital with Manchester airport and the Lake District.

Scotrail services link Edinburgh to destinations throughout Scotland.

London is four and a half hours away by train while the Edinburgh to Glasgow shuttle runs every 15 minutes between 7am and 7pm and takes roughly 50 minutes.
