Parking
Edinburgh has a network of city centre off-street car parks and
dedicated permitted zones for resident and visitor parking.
A recent survey found 84% of Edinburgh’s motorists considered
the off-street car park they were in either easy or very easy to
find. Sixty-two per cent of drivers users found it easy or very
easy to find an on-street parking space.
In busy areas, regulations allow for residents' parking, parking
for people with disabilities and loading/unloading bays near shops
where turnover of space is needed.
Edinburgh was the first city in the UK to offer motorists a
choice of how to pay for on-street parking with the introduction of
mPark - where drivers can use their mobile phone to pay for parking
instead of putting coins in pay and display machines. Options
include text message alerts ten minutes before your ticket runs
out.
New parking permits are also available for retail businesses and
tradespeople.
