Lothian Buses  - UK Bus Operator of the Year 2007 - carries 350,000 passengers every weekday. This means that Edinburgh has the highest bus use, per head of population, of any city in the UK outside of London.

The Inspiring Capital also has the most frequent buses in Scotland – with half of services operating at least once every 13 minutes. Eighty per cent of Lothian buses are now low-floor, helping people with disabilities, luggage and buggies. Free local bus travel for pensioners was also pioneered in Edinburgh and now operates across the whole of Scotland. The city has the UK's cheapest bus day ticket. An extensive inter-city bus network links Edinburgh city region to points across Scotland and the UK.
