Labour costs in Scotland

investors.
Labour costs are significantly lower than in London and the
south-east, with Scotland's indirect social wage costs, such as
employer national insurance, among the lowest in Europe.
Average gross weekly earnings for full time employees in
Scotland at £460 are 4% below the UK average and significantly
lower than London (£613), the South East (£500) and East England
(£468).
Earnings in Edinburgh City Region are higher than the Scottish
average, but lower than the UK average, reflecting the calibre and
occupational structure of the local
workforce.
In European terms, earnings in Edinburgh City are on a par with
its northern European competitors and significantly higher than
city-regions in southern and eastern Europe.
