Employment rates
Employment across Edinburgh City Region is at
its highest ever, ahead of any English cities.
There is 78% employment in Edinburgh, while
81.6% of the population - almost 241,000 men and women - are active
in the labour market. Across the wider Edinburgh City Region, 82.2%
of the population are economically active.
Five percent of those aged 16+ in Edinburgh
and Lothians are self-employed, while 38% are full-time
employees.
Edinburgh has 317,199 employee jobs, a rise of
more than a fifth in a decade, while just under 234,000 of those
over 16 are in employment.
Unemployment in Edinburgh is consistently the
lowest of any period in the city's history and, at March 2007, was
just 2.8%.
