Edinburgh outperforms Scotland in terms of school leaver
qualifications.
Thirty five percent of Edinburgh's fourth year pupils leave
school with five or more Standard Grade Credit awards, while
another quarter gain three or more Highers by the end of fifth
year.
A high proportion of these school leavers enter higher education
(30%), employment (26%), further education (21%) and training

Almost a quarter of Edinburgh's 25,568 secondary school pupils
attend independent schools.
There are around 50,000 school leavers a year in Scotland.
In 2007/08, just under 87 per cent of these in were in
'positive' destinations three months after the end of the school
year. Positive destinations are defined as higher education,
further education, employment, training or voluntary work.
