optoelectronics expertise:
- Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh has more
than 25 years' experience in optical information processing,
optoelectronics and fibre-based optoelectronic systems
- The Institute for System Level Integration in
Livingston, West Lothian, is the world’s first centre of excellence
in the exploration of system-on-chip design, system level
integration and related technologies
- Scottish Consortium in Integrated
Micro-Photonic Systems, a research collaboration involving
Strathclyde, Heriot-Watt and Glasgow Universities, will build on
this expertise
- Commercial successes in this sector include
Edinburgh Instruments, Photonic Solutions, BAE Systems and industry
innovations such as the world’s first underwater radio frequency
and broadband modems
- Multi-disciplinary collaborative research
at Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt Universities and their industry
partners will help Edinburgh City Region grow and develop its
