The catchment area for retailers in Edinburgh City Region is
large, diverse and prosperous.
The Edinburgh City Region has a population of 1,276,692 and this
is expected to grow by a further 97,513 or 7.6% by 2022.
Migrant workers attracted to the city region's economic success
and high quality of life from Europe and beyond are adding to the
indigenous population.
And tourism represents a further huge retail market. Edinburgh
attracts more than 3m UK visitors and 1m overseas visitors a year,
with the city's population swelling to more than 1m during August,
the key festival month.
Edinburgh’s population is expected to increase
by more than any other local authority area in Scotland between
2004 and 2024 while West Lothian and Fife are expected to have the
next largest increases.
