A compelling retail destination
Edinburgh's prestigious status as the gateway
to Scotland and a leading centre for finance, business, politics
and tourism makes it a compelling destination for retailers. In
2008, Edinburgh regained its position as one of the top 20 retail
destinations in the UK, being ranked 19th by retail consultants
CACI.
Edinburgh is the most prosperous city after
London and the UK’s second city of tourism, attracting 4m UK and
international visitors a year to its rich mix of culture, history
and leisure - including shopping.
Retail employs 56,000 people across Edinburgh
City Region - one in ten jobs - and is a vital component of the
local economy, generating around £760m a year.
Scotland has led the consumer spending boom of
recent years and, with a number of flagship developments underway
in Edinburgh to strengthen the capital’s reputation as an
international shopping hub, there has never been a better time to
invest in the retail sector.
