Commercialisation
Edinburgh has a strong track record in research
commercialisation, with The University of Edinburgh alone creating
57 businesses since 2001. Three quarters of these are still trading
and include Wolfson Microelectronics and MicroEmissive Displays, which are listed respectively on the
London Stock Exchange and Alternative Investment Market.
A number of programmes have been designed to
support and develop Scotland's track record in
commercialisation.
These include The Scottish Institute for Enterprise, a
collaboration between Scotland's universities, and Edinburgh Research and Innovation (ERI) a
wholly-owned subsidiary of The University of Edinburgh. ERI's
services include pre-award research support, technology transfer
management, consultancy services, company formation and incubation
facilities.
