Edinburgh City Region has a long history of innovation and is one of Europe's top
ten locations for science and
technology.
High-profile innovations such as the cloning of Dolly the Sheep
and the creation of the first genetically engineered vaccine for
Hepatitis B have contributed to this strong international
profile.
Edinburgh's universities are global centres of excellence in
disciplines including informatics, stem cell research,
biotechnology and microelectronics.
A number of pioneering initiatives are underway across the
city region, including Edinburgh
BioQuarter, a landmark UK life sciences
real estate development, and Edinburgh Science Triangle, a dynamic
colloboration of seven science and technology parks housing more
than 3,000 world-class researchers and
over 100 market-leading companies including Xilinx,
IndigoVision and Helica
Instruments.
