The Scottish Investment Bank (SIB) Limited
has been established by Scottish Enterprise as a subsidiary
company. The SIB will be responsible for the new Scottish Loan Fund
(SLF) and the agency's existing 3 mainly equity-based funds:
Scottish Seed Fund, Scottish Venture Fund and Scottish
Co-investment Fund.
The Scottish Loan Fund (SLF) comprises a total
of more than £94 million (£39 million of private sector
funding and £55 million of public sector investment) which
is now available through the fund to eligible small
and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
Businesses which demonstrate growth or the intention to grow and
exporting businesses can apply to the SLF for finance of between
£250,000 and £5 million.
Managed by independent fund managers Maven Capital Partners, the
opened for business early in 2011 and has so far received a great
deal of interest. Maven expects that the fund should issue its
first loan offers to Scottish companies in April 2011.
The loan funding aims to provide mezzanine-type loan products,
targeted mainly at the needs of growth and exporting businesses
that are not being met by banks or other private sector sources. It
will complement existing public sector finance sources such
as £5 million East of Scotland Investment Fund, announced last
month, to support local business growth and job creation.
Scottish Enterprise also help match growing Scottish
companies with private investors through a number of funds
including;
The Scottish SEED Fund (SSF) has been set
up to improve the availability of finance for start-up and
young growing companies in Scotland. The SSF can invest
between £20,000 and £100,000 on an equity basis in early stage
businesses. Priority will be given to businesses demonstrating
high-growth potential in terms of launching new products, entering
new markets and increasing employment.
The Scottish Venture Fund (SVF) has been set up
by Scottish Enterprise in conjunction with the Scottish Government
to invest £500,000 to £2 million, along side private sector
partners, in company finance deals of between £2 million and £10
million.
The Scottish Co-Investment Fund
The Scottish Co-investment Fund (SCF) is a £72 million equity
investment fund, partly funded by the European Regional Development
Fund, to invest from £100,000 to £1 million in company finance
deals of up to £2 million.
