EU Funding - the Edinburgh region
The Scottish Government has awarded the
contract to deliver the new Lowland and Uplands
Scotland European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and
European Social Fund (ESF) Programmes.
In April 2010 the Scottish
Government announced funding awards of over £30 million to
projects in the Lowlands and Uplands Scotland ERDF Programme
2007-2013. Under the Third Round of funding a total of 35 projects
across Lowlands and Uplands Scotland will benefit from the new
allocations under the
European Regional Development Fund
Programme including;
Priority 1 : Research &
Innovation
European funding of more than £9.3
million invested in new projects that will harness the
economic potential of Scotland's world-leading research base and
support the creation of 740 jobs. Awards include;
University of Edinburgh:
Scottish Environmental Technology Network Phase Two (£408,137),
Edinburgh Napier University: Institute for Wood
Products (£665,387), Edinburgh Climate Change Centre (ECCC)
(£613,872), Business
& Technology Hub (£1 million) and the Construction
Industry Advancement Centre (£761,129). Fife
Council: Fife Renewables Business Innovation &
Incubation Hub (£125,377) and the Fife Renewable Hub
Capital (£750,000) as well
as Roslin BioCentre: Bioscience
Network Ltd: Biosciences Knowledge Transfer Network (£705,167)
Priority 2: Enterprise
Growth
European funding of more than £4.7 million is
being invested in initiatives to support small and medium
enterprises (SMEs) and the creation of 580 new jobs. Awards
include;
Scottish Enterprise: Advanced Entrepreneurial
& Pre-Incubation Support (£1,281,801) and Support for Young
Innovative Enterprises (YIE) (£2,810,780) and Fife
Council: East of Scotland Investment Fund (£2,000,000) and
Support for Enterprise II (£196,423)
East of Scotland Investment
Fund The Scottish Governments creation of a £5 million
pound , backed by European Regional Development Funding
(ERDF), will offer loans to businesses and could create around
1,300 new jobs.
The £5 million fund will offer more than 430
East of Scotland growth businesses access loans of up to £50,000.
The fund has the potential to generate increased turnover of £34.56
million in small and medium sized enterprises and could create
approximately 1,300 new jobs.
