West Edinburgh

West Edinburgh acts as a gateway to the city - both locally
and globally. Occupying a strategic location in Scotland's central
belt it is home to many of the country's top performing
companies.
Major developments including the expansion of
Edinburgh Park , the on-going development
of Edinburgh Airport, the global headquarters of the
Royal Bank of Scotland at
Gogarburn and the development of the
Edinburgh International implementation plan
have led to the area becoming a global business hub.
West Edinburgh is within commuting distance of a large talented
workforce from both Edinburgh and Glasgow city regions, while its
location in relation to Edinburgh Airport provides an unrivalled
level of
international connectivity.
West Edinburgh is an area of national importance for business.
Its proximity to the airport, together with land that can be made
available for development, creates major opportunities.
This potential is recognised in the Scottish Government’s West
Edinburgh Planning Framework, which has resulted in the
development of the
Edinburgh International implementation plan in
which the key elements are:
• The continued expansion and upgrading of Edinburgh
Airport;
• Improved transport infrastructure connecting the airport;
• The development of the Royal Highland Showground;
• The creation of an International Business Gateway;
• The potential development of a world class arena or multi-use
venue.
Other major developments in West Edinburgh include;
Edinburgh Napier University
The £55 million expansion and redevelopment of Edinburgh Napier
University’s Sighthill campus represents the final phase of a £100
million estate strategy. Officially opened in 2011, the
campus houses approximately 5,500 students and staff (bringing
additional expenditure to the area) and provide residents with
access to health clinics, sport facilities and other amenities.
The Future
Guided by the West Edinburgh Planning Framework, West Edinburgh
continues to emerge as a global business hub, attracting investment
from a number of quarters. This growth offers numerous
opportunities for developers, occupiers and other interested
parties.
