Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd. is
one of the three companies leading the waterfront regeneration and
owns 120 acres of prime waterfront land at Granton, including 1.3km
of waterfront.
Owned by The City of
Edinburgh Council, Waterfront Edinburgh Ltd. strives to
promote economic and social regeneration, as well as the physical
redevelopment of North Edinburgh.
The 13 hectares of brownfield land between Granton Harbour and
West Granton offer significant potential for mixed-use development.
Permission has been granted for over 2,900 homes, along with
90,000m2 of commercial space and 43,000m2 of cultural and leisure
space.
To date, Waterfront Edinburgh Limited has delivered 233 new
homes in Granton. The first section of the Edinburgh Promenade,
connecting Silverknowes and Granton, opened in August 2009.
Construction of the section between Granton and Granton Harbour
will begin summer 2010. Upon completion, the Edinburgh
Promenade will provide a continuous 17km footpath and cycleway
between Cramond and Joppa.
The company is overseeing the development of:
- Up to 2,900 new houses, 15% of which will be affordable
- Business uses that will allow the area to become a major
employment location, with an element of industrial
activity
- A new neighbourhood centre that will provide local shopping and
leisure uses
- A new primary school
- Hotel and leisure facilities that will make the area a new
leisure destination for Edinburgh.
