Regional transport links
Edinburgh sits at the centre of an extensive road and rail network
providing links across Scotland.
Road
The A720 Edinburgh City Bypass is one of the main trunk roads in
east central Scotland and links vitally important routes such as
the M8, the main route west to Glasgow (drive time: 55 minutes),
the A1 the primary route south to from Scotland to England, and the
M9 to Stirling (50 mins).
The A902 also links the City Bypass to the M90 and A90 leading
north out of the city, to Perth (45 mins), Dundee (1hr 12mins) and
Aberdeen (2hrs 15mins).
Rail
Edinburgh
Waverley is the terminus and starting point for many rail
services within Scotland, operated by First Scotrail.
More than 9,000 people commute by rail between Edinburgh and
Glasgow every day.
The Edinburgh to Glasgow shuttle service runs every 15 minutes
between 7am and 7pm and takes roughly 50 minutes.
Bus
Intercity bus services include Scottish Citylink routes
between Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling and
Inverness.
Edinburgh Bus Station at St Andrew Square was recently
redeveloped to provide more modern facilities.
