Edinburgh City Region is a national
transport hub, providing access to UK, European and Transatlantic
markets by air, road, rail and sea.
Edinburgh International Airport,
operated by BAA plc, is the busiest airport in Scotland. More than
40 airlines serve 100 international
destinations, carrying 9m passengers and 10,250 tonnes of air cargo
per year.
Edinburgh Waverley is Britain's largest train station outside
London, with approximately 20 million users per year and climbing.
Train numbers have increased by half to over 600 per day in
the last 15 years. The station's operator, Network Rail,
provides freight services across Britain.
Edinburgh is the hub of Scotland's
A-road numbering system, with many radial routes leading in and out
of the city to the South, North, East and West.
The Forth estuary is also the largest freight port area in
Scotland, accounting for roughly a third of total Scottish freight
traffic.
