Commuters enjoy frequent train services across Edinburgh City
Region. Over 23 million passengers travel through Edinburgh
train stations on an annual basis.
Typical travel times from Edinburgh Waverley station include
Edinburgh Park (8 minutes); Falkirk (23 mins); Dunfermline (39
mins); Stirling (41 mins); Kirkcaldy (55 mins) and North Berwick
(59 mins).
Edinburgh has the highest bus use, per head of population, of
any city in the UK outside of London and an extensive bus network
covers all parts of the city, its suburbs and the surrounding city
region.
Lothian Buses carries
350,000 passengers every weekday and operates over 50 bus services
in Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian. First Bus runs around 300
services throughout Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.
A new tram network will link
Edinburgh Airport to the city centre, providing fast,
accessible and environmentally-friendly transport through the city.
A new crossing over the Firth of Forth, due in 2016, will
improve transport connections by road. Other local transport links
include 150km of on and off-road cycle lanes throughout the
city.
