Architectural excellence
Edinburgh's built environment has earned it a
number of accolades over the years.
In 2006, the Scottish capital was named European City of the
Year by the Academy of Urbanism, representing a group of leading
British architects and planners. The Academy aims to identify and
promote best practice in urbanism throughout the UK and Ireland and
is creating a body of evidence-based best practice at the level of
the city, the town, the neighbourhood, the street and the
place.
Other accolades include the Leith site of
Edinburgh's waterfront being ranked the largest regeneration
waterfront project in the UK and the Granton site the sixth largest
in the UK by Regeneration and renewal magazine in March
2007.
The Inspiring Capital has an international
reputation for architectural excellence, both historical and
contemporary.
