BioCampus
Introduction
BioCampus is Scotland’s first dedicated
national bio-manufacturing campus.
In recent years, a highly successful animal
biosciences cluster has developed around the Biocampus including
the renowned Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, the Moredun
and Roslin Institutes (both world acclaimed centres of research
excellence), the Animal Biosciences Researchers of the Scottish
Agricultural College, Edinburgh Technopole and Pentlands Science
Park.
Roslin Institute and University of Edinburgh
are currently rolling out a £110m capital programme, due for
occupation in 2011.
Accommodation
BioCampus is a flagship development, custom designed to
meet the needs of companies involved in the specialist manufacture
of next generation biotechnology related products. Scotland has a
thriving bio manufacturing community and Biocampus provides an
integrated environment that’s fully equipped for advanced cGMP
biomanufacturing.
Facilities and Services
A wide range of support services are available
to companies locating at BioCampus including innovative land and
property development solutions. The campus presents a fantastic
opportunity for bio manufacturing companies to locate in an area
with a well established bio science community.
Location
Located just eight miles from Edinburgh City
Centre, set in attractive woodland, eight miles from Edinburgh City
Centre and next door to Pentlands Science Park and Edinburgh
Technopole, the campus is a 25 acre site providing a 25,000 sq ft
advance cGMP manufacturing unit, a 15,000 sq ft outline design for
phase 2 and various development plots for bespoke builds.
BioCamopus is also in close proximity to
Edinburgh BioQuarter, which will provide more than 1.4m sq ft of
biomedical and R&D facilities over a 50 hectare (125 acre)
site, when complete.
Knowledge Exchange
Midlothian boasts one of the biggest
concentrations of life and animal science related activity in
Europe and is home to some of the world’s leading scientists and
research organisations in this field.
Biocampus provides easy access to over 37
university departments and institutes involved in ground breaking
biotechnology related research and development across Scotland and
the University departments of Heriot-Watt, Strathclyde and
Edinburgh are involved in applied bioprocessing and related
searches.
