Institute for Stem Cell Research (ISCR)

The Institute for Stem Cell Research (ISCR) is a world-leading multidisciplinary research institute focused on the molecular, cellular and developmental biology of stem cells. Recognised globally as a centre of excellence, ISCR is dedicated to developing an understanding of stem cells and cell specification required for development of regenerative therapies to treat human disease and injury. Investigators have pioneered key advances in the biology and manipulation of stem cells.

Network

The ISCR is one of the founding institutes of the new Centre for Regenerative Medicine together with the Roslin Institute and clinical teams within the University of Edinburgh’s clinical school.

The Institute currently houses 10 research groups exploiting genetic manipulation technologies and bioinformatics approaches to investigate pluripotent mouse and human embryonic stem (ES) cells, tissue stem cells in the developing embryo, and transcriptional and epigenetic determinants of cell fate.

Locate

The ISCR offers a dynamic, interactive and internationally competitive environment for stem cell research within the School of Biological Sciences, located on the King's Buildings campus of the University of Edinburgh, This is underpinned by excellent in-house resources for stem cell culture, experimental embryology (mouse and Xenopus), gene targeting and microinjection, bioinformatics facilities, cell sorting (FACS), imaging and confocal microscopy.
