September Edinburgh What’s On Round-up
Although August is fast becoming fading memory and the Festival
is unfortunately over for another year, there’s little chance of
boredom because there’s plenty of interesting things happening in
and around Edinburgh in September. We’ve selected five things you
probably won’t want to miss.

The rather impressive Edinburgh International Climbing Arena
plays host to the 2010 World
Youth Climbing Championships from 9-12 September. The sport’s
top young stars will be showing off their skills at Ratho. With
four grueling days of competition, who can hang in there and take
the title?

Sunday 12 September, a 250-strong mounted cavalcade will take to
the city’s streets – don’t worry though, it’s not an invading army!
It’s just the annual re-enactment of the Edinburgh Riding of
the Marches, commemorating the return of the Captain of the
City Band from the Battle of Flodden in 1513.

Two of the most famous people in the world will meet up in
Edinburgh when The Queen receives Pope Benedict XVI at the Palace
of Holyroodhouse on 16 September. The public will get a chance to
see him as he travels
through the city in the Popemobile.

On 18-19 September, the Archery World Cup Final
comes to the gorgeous setting of East Princes Street Gardens, in
the shadow of the Scott Monument. 32 competitors will be battling
it out to be crowned champion in this exciting head-to-head
knock-out format. Over at the Have a Go site, aspiring Robin Hoods
can have a go themselves, without the need to don a pair of
tights.

The Doors
Open Day is perfect for the inquisitive, curious or just
downright nosy! It’s your chance for a free peek inside properties
that aren’t always accessible to the public – from private
buildings to famous city landmarks – on the last weekend of the
month.
