Those lovely people at Edinburgh Airport have been
very busy in recent weeks, announcing four new routes, two of which
are the first in Scotland. Nine other flights will see their
frequency increased too, and there have been significant
developments in
plans for a new hotel at the UK's fastest growing airport
For the first time, Scots will be able to fly directly to both
Vilnius and Marrakech. Not at the same time though, obviously.
Vilnius was the 2009
European Capital of Culture and has increasingly become a popular
destination in recent years. It’s been pretty hard to get to and
fro from Scotland though, but happily
that’s all about to change thanks to Star1 Airlines. At the
very least, it should make it easier for Hearts players to get to
training.
It’s quite prophetic launching this service given that just a
few days later Scotland was drawn against the Lithuanians in the
World Cup Qualifiers. Certainly makes life easier for the
Tartan Army. Not that we think that the airport had an
inside man at UEFA you understand
The other new route sees Ryanair offering flights to
The Red City, a favourite among travellers looking for a bit of
sun.
It’s not just more choice for us Scots when it comes to choosing
where to go on holiday -it'll make it easier for foreign visitors
to visit us, great news for Edinburgh’s economy too. Which is
nice.
