Edinburgh Braced For Dalek Invasion - New Stairs Installed Throughout City, Sunday March 21 2010
It’s not often you get advance warning of an alien invasion, but
that’s exactly what to expect in Edinburgh over the
Easter weekend. They’ve even announced where they are going to base
themselves when they arrive – Festival Square.
You needn’t worry to much though, as these aliens have always
been defeated in the past.
From 1 to 3 April. the square will be overrun with Daleks and the
Cybermen, not to mention a raft of other scary characters from
Dr Who.
Almost 20,000 people are expected to descend on the square for
the interactive event, which will see fans take part in a whole
host of activities to celebrate the latest series of the much-loved
show.
Whovians will be treated to a 3D spectacular on the BBC’s giant
television located in the square, including sneak previews from the
new series which features Time Lord no.11 Matt Smith and his
sidekick Karen Gillan, who studied at the city’s Telford College.
There will also be the chance to win lots of great prizes, and
fans will be able to explore an inflatable replica of the interior
of the Doctor’s Tardis.
While you may have grown up terrified by the baddies in Dr Who, we reckon that it’s
unlikely you’ll be able to pass up the opportunity to confront your
fears once and for all. Better take your sofa to hide behind just
in case though…
