Bonfire Night in Edinburgh..., Wednesday November 04 2009
It’s Bonfire Night this Thursday, and what better way to
celebrate the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot of
1605 , preventing explosions and a huge fire with, eh,
explosions and a huge fire.
Perhaps you’re planning on inviting some friends round and
having your own bonfire, with the help of the neighbour’s lovely
new oak patio furniture. If so, here’s some tips to make sure you
stay safe. If not, there are plenty of organised events in and
around Edinburgh.
The main event takes place at Meadowbank Stadium from 6.30 pm.
There’s a spectacular light show accompanied by music, with the
fireworks starting at 7.30pm. There are also sporting activities
and a bagpipe performance, with this year’s additional
entertainment taking on a Disney theme. Tickets cost £5 and more
details can be found here.

If
you’re willing to venture a little further out of town, there’s
also a free display at the Musselburgh Race Course. This year the
gates open at 5pm and there will be a fireworks display accompanied
by live music between 8pm-9pm. There’s plenty more in store
including fairground rides and food and drink stalls to keep you
fed and watered. The evening’s festivities will be compered by
Forth One’s
Grant Stott.
And don’t forget to lock up your dogs inside with the curtains
drawn, so that they don’t get upset by the fireworks (they tend to
be fervent anti-parliamentarians. In fact, they don’t like rules at
all).
